Purchase College Student Film Awarded at Gotham Film Festival

A Portrait of Diana White, a short documentary by rising junior in the Purchase College School of Film and Media Studies Victoria deMartin, won the “Express Documentary” award at the Gotham Film Festival.

The film weaves interviews with White, a true “Balanchine girl” and a former soloist with New York City Ballet, and footage of her dancing, to reveal the ballerina’s life-long passion for dance as well as the experience of working with renowned choreographer George Balanchine.

Balanchine was one of the 20th century’s most famous choreographers, a developer of ballet in the United States and the co-founder of New York City Ballet. He was a choreographer known expressing music with dance and he worked extensively with Igor Stravinsky.

The 2nd annual Gotham Film Festival, sponsored by Gotham City Networking, Inc., was held at the Friars Club in Manhattan on Wednesday, June 13.
