SUNY Purchase Professor Mary Alice Williams Appeared on NBC’s Weekend Today Show

Mary Alice Williams, assistant professor of journalism at SUNY Purchase, appeared on Weekend Today yesterday, Sunday, September 16. The show celebrated its 25th anniversary, inviting several of its former co-anchors to share their experiences. Williams co-anchored with Garrick Utley from 1989 to 1993.Williams earned national attention as one of the founding prime-time anchors and designers of CNN, the first worldwide TV network. She was later named vice president, one of the highest-ranking female executives in American television.

During her tenure at NBC, she anchored NBC News Special Reports and NBC’s extended coverage of Desert Storm. She was a frequent anchor and correspondent for NBC Nightly NewsSunrise, and the weekday Today Show, interviewing news-makers, reporting on a variety of popular culture and human interest stories, and covering health and finance issues.

During her career, she has also been correspondent, writer, anchor, and host for programs on PBS, the Hallmark ChannelLifetime Television and the Discovery Health Channel; a writer for the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric; and reporter/anchor at WCBS Radio.
