Purchase Professor Anne Kern, coordinator of Cinema Studies program at Purchase, comments, “Many students have said the festival is a ‘French film camp’ – a chance to be immersed in contemporary French culture, language, and visual images. The students gain privileged access to talented artists who provide insight and inspiration, as they also develop their own skills and creative vision.”
According Catherine Lamairesse, event chair and founder of Focus on French Cinema, “We are very proud to offer a variety of films from all genres and horizons of the French world. The festival is a daring exploration that will expose the audience to ideas and emotions that will surprise, soothe, amaze, dazzle, and make them laugh—engaging them on every level!”
Even those younger than college age will be able to participate—with a special screening for up to 300 middle and high school students from the Fairfield/Westchester area. “The appeal of French cinema is universal—encompassing all ages and nationalities. We are thrilled to offer this opportunity to appreciate this art form to the whole community,” concludes Anne Kern.
